Greco-Roman Wrestling
Greco-Roman Wrestling is one of two types of wrestling the in Olympic Games and was one of the original 9 sports in the first modern Olympics held in Athens. The ultimate goal is to PIN you opponent. A pin is the result of holding your opponents shoulders to the mat for one second. You can also win a match by winning two of three rounds. Winning a round is done by accumulating the most points in that round, the round is called a period. At anytime during a period if one opponent has a six point advantage, that period ends.
The start of each match both opponents face-off in the neutral position. Both are working to get a takedown. All takedowns must be accomplished using throws and upper-body maneuvers (no lower-body maneuvers are permitted for a takedown).
After you have your opponent on the mat, you are working to turn his shoulders to the mat. Again all maneuvers must be upper-body moves and no use of your legs to gain a trip is allowed.
