Folkstyle Wrestling

Folkstyle wrestling is similar Freestyle very different from Greco-Roman, like freestyle wrestling Folkstyle allows scoring below the waist. There are some differences in allowable holds and the point system is quite different. Folkstyle wrestling is often called collegiate wrestling and is the style used in high school and collegiate competition sports programs.

Your main objective in Folkstyle wrestling is to PIN your opponent. To do so in Folkstyle wrestling you must hold your opponent’s back to the mat for two seconds. You can also win the match by outscoring your opponent. When one grappler outscores the other opponent, that grappler wins the match. A match can also end if one grappler leads the other by over 15 points.

During Folkstyle competition you can only lock your hands while standing, your opponent’s body or knees are off the mat, during a takedown and in a pinning move of your opponent. When a grappler is riding the opponent it is illegal to clasp your hands.
